To pair metrics with dimensions, they should have the same scope level. Metrics and Dimensions can have only one scope so you should use the same scope level for both metrics and dimensions if you want to match the reports exactly.
Example – A valid dimension-metric combination is “User type” and “User“. Both have the same scope which is the “User level” scope.
If you use a dimension-metric combination like “Source” and “User” then it will be invalid because the scope levels are different.
